Lots of tatsy things going on, hope to see you all SOON!
It’s with a heavy heart we say #IndieBeerFeast summer edition will not be happening in August. We will be rescheduling to 4-5th March 2022. After feedback from the breweries and cideries involved and in addition to the unsure situation we’re still very much in nationally with the pandemic. Everyone’s safety and well-being is our utmost priority. With the intimacy of the venue, we’re just not sure we could operate under restrictions and with the uncertainty of the new extension date so close, we can’t take this risk. We’re very much hopefully that means next year we can run the festival as we would love to and as you would love us to also.
In addition it does mean we can coincide with a full beery week of fun alongside @sheffbeerweek Tickets for this year are valid for next. If you can no longer make, or would like to change your session date/time contact @gigantictickets for refunds (minus booking fee). However we do hope to see you all in ‘22!

Before the socials are taken over again about all things #FunkFest21 we thought we’d better tell you about our upcoming 8th birthday weekend 12th to 14th November
This year we're thankfully back to in-person events.
We'll be working with beer writer, podcaster and virtual beer school host Natalya Watson @beerwithnat to curate our tap list, so expect a host of classic beer styles to enjoy, pouring from Fri 12th November. On Saturday November 13th there'll be a Hop Hideout social, starting at our space in Kommune foodhall, and then we'll be heading up to Saint Mars of the Desert @beerofsmod for a real life brewery tour (instead of last year’s virtual one!). Tickets are available online (£4per person 18+ only), limited places and include a third on arrival at Hop Hideout plus a snazzy Kev Grey @kev_grey designed patch.
Meet at Hop Hideout 12.30 - Saturday November 13. We’ll roughly head up to Saint Mars around 2pm, either by foot (20min walk) or by tram depending on what people would prefer on the day. Enjoy a brewery tour and then some time in the taproom. Come join in….

Funk Fest Update
26th to 31st October
Join Hop Hideout as part of Abbeydale Brewery's Funk Fest Trail this year all week. We’ll be launching with a UK mixed fermentation showcase on the taps from Tuesday opening with Abbedyale’s Funk Dungeon and friends Little Earth Project
In addition we’ll be highlighting the brilliant cider and Perry made by women in the UK scene via our Cider Women showcase across keg and bottle/can all week.
On Friday 29th October we’ll be exclusively launching the hotly anticipated next 750ml bottle release from the UK’s first blendery - Crossover Blendery. We’ll also have limited availability of a number of their previous releases. Be quick on these as they won’t stick around long! Crossover Blendery are based in Hertfordshire and focus on producing 100% spontaneously fermented beers aged in traditional vessels such as oak barrels; they launched in 2020 to positive acclaim.
Look out for more to be announced through the week across Hop Hideout’s socials including free pop-up tastings.
We'll be getting into the Oktoberfest mood with a UK angle - pouring London's Anspach & Hobday's 4 beers.
Festival Lager 4.6%
A classic Marzen-style Festbier, brewed to a higher abv than their core Lager, and with a higher portion of Munich malt. Bold, sweet malt flavours are balanced by a noble hop bitterness. Having spent over three months in our horizontal lager tanks, the beer has had all the time needed for the flavours and aromas to round out, and come together to create a perfectly balanced, smooth, celebratory Lager.
Rauchbier 5.6%
The Rauchbier is their homage to the great smoked beers of Bamberg. Dark, rich, and immensely smokey, The Rauchbier is as wholesome as they come. The lager fermentation and extended cold conditioning in our horizontal tanks rounds out and balances the beer, keeping it crisp, fresh and incredibly drinkable.
Hefeweizen 5.0%
A classic Bavarian inspired Wheat Beer. Whilst a touch of Munich malt adds some colour and a touch of maltyness, this beer is all about the interaction between wheat and a classic strain of Hefeweizen yeast. Typical aromas of bananas, cloves and spice lead to a full, rounded palate and a clean, refreshing finish. Huel Melon hops add some additional fruitiness to what is otherwise a very traditional interpretation of the style.
Gose 4.0%
Light, fresh, salty and tart, The Gose is their interpretation of the classic Leipzig sour beer in its purest form. Whilst not quite as sour as Berliner Weisses, a bright acidity keeps the beer incredibly refreshing, whilst a touch of salt adds a delicate savoury note, resulting in ultimate drinkability. The use of modern German hops (H. Melon. H. Blanc) bring the style up to date and add a fresh fruitiness to the aroma and palate.
These will be on the same weekend as Saint Mars of the Desert's 'Smodfest' lager weekend up at the brewery taproom. So a perfect accompaniment to keep in the Oktoberfest spirit all weekend.
Starting to organise events again. September ➡️ @jesterkingbrewery ⤵️
Jester King is an authentic farmhouse brewery started in 2010 in Texas and is committed to mixed culture and spontaneous fermentation. Their beer incorporates their natural surroundings and local agriculture, making beer uniquely tied to a time, place and people.
We’ll be pouring 3 wonderful Jester King beers on tap this weekend:
Jester King-Bug Farm 5.8%
Saison farmhouse ale brewed with lavender, rosemary and spearmint and refermented with fresh pressed watermelon juice.
Jester King-Year 10 Saison 5.8%
10th-anniversary Dry-Hopped farmhouse ale is brewed with well water, 100% Texas malt (malted barley, oats, and triticale from their friends at TexMalt in Fort Worth), and East Kent Golding, Fuggle, and Perle hops. It represents a decade worth of brewing based on local sourcing of ingredients, wild fermentation with native yeast, and pursuing a sense of time, place, and people in beer.
Jester King-Citrus Froot Direct 6.6%
Triple dry hopped farmhouse IPA with Texas Dancy Mandarins and Hamlin Oranges. They brewed a dextrinous wort with raw wheat and flaked oats over a base of TexMalt San Jacinto 2-Row and Wildfire Pale Malt. Then pitched Jester King’s mixed culture in stainless steel with a bio-trans dry hop of Ekuanot and Amarillo. Following primary, they refermented the beer with fresh, hand-juiced Dancy Mandarins and Hamlin Oranges from Orange Blossom Farm in Utopia, Texas west of San Antonio. Then dry hopped the beer two more times with Ekuanot and Sabro cryo before adding the hand-processed zest from the mandarins and oranges. 100% naturally conditioned.
Looking forward to this ⤵️
Posted #withregram • @mrcsheffield As part of the @indiebeerfeast Festival Trail weekend, MRC Sheffield will be hosting our 1st ‘club run’ back @hophideout 👏 Its’s only been 9 months!!! We’ve kept going through our virtual solo runs and then small group activity up at Norfolk Park monthly, so this feels like a big milestone to be BACK.
This 5km fun run will start at #HopHideout 11am set-off, then head along the canal to our friends @beerofsmod where we can rest for a beer and/or water then head back for more of the same. Face coverings recommended indoors at the venues. Hand sanitiser, free water also provided at venues as required. If you’d like to join us, please let us know by direct message in advance so we can manage the group effectively. New runners always welcome. 🎉

First up Thurs 8th April, UK time 6pm, we’ll be meeting owner and winemaker Moritz of @resfortes 🥂
Moritz Bak's interest in wine started at an early age and he spent lots of time travelling and working in the vineyards. He then returned to Rousillon in the foothills of the French Pyrenees and selected the vineyard sites which would produce grapes with which he could realise his vision. Tough terrain = the finest wine. His first vintage was produced in 2014.
In this session we’ll be talking Merlot Madness (2018, 75cl, 14%). 100% Merlot. Hand harvested grapes from his small organic vineyard. An easy drinking red wine with soft tannins. 🍾 Forget what the film Sideways states (!), we love the comforting nature of a modern merlot. We’d love you to join us *chin chin*

Hop Hideout will be joining in the celebrations (again) of New Zealand Beer Month, as one of the embassies, hurrah! Details and beers to be announced….
From the New Zealand Beer Collective:
“Back again for our third year, with a month-long celebration of what New Zealand's finest breweries are producing, all brought to your doorstep. This year we're doing things a bit differently, with online events, promotions, charity fundraisers and competitions. We are also welcoming the following ace venues as our #NZBM21 Embassies, where you can try out the freshest NZ beers ALL MONTH LONG.”
To try and shine a little positive spotlight on the industry in these tough times🔦we’ve challenged ourselves to #Tryanuary every month through 2021! That means each month throughout this year we’ll be showcasing a fresh brewery at Hop Hideout for you lovely folk to enjoy.
It could mean a brand new brewery, it could mean a brewery we’ve never stocked before (there’s over 2,000 in the UK alone) or it could mean a brewery we’ve never been able to stock until recently as they’ve been predominantly focused on cask ale but have just started bottling or canning!
The first brewery we’re shining the #hophideout 🔦 spotlight on as part of our #newyearnewbeer is Deptford, London based @villagesbrewery set-up by brothers Archie and Louis Villages in 2016. Villages,
“Bring people together to do things that bring people together”
We’ve currently five beers in stock - Rafiki (session IPA), Rodeo (pale ale - one for lovers of Green Mountain!), Swamp Hog (NEIPA), Reptile Smile (West Coast IPA) and version 4 of Isolation IPA coming featuring a medley of American hops including Azacca and Idaho 7 for tropical and stone fruit notes. Villages are donating the proceeds of Isolation IPA to the @national_emergencies_trust_ and we will join them in adding a donation from the sale of this beer too 🙏
